The purpose of this guideline is to provide an evidence-based summary of best practice in the management of early breast cancer in order to promote best clinical practice in relation to the care and management of men and women with early breast cancer. The recommendations are based on clinical effectiveness and other considerations (including quality of life), but not on an analysis of cost effectiveness or quality of life years gained.

Notes:Overall this is a high quality guideline providing advice for the management of early breast cancer, written specifically for the New Zealand context. The guideline development team comprised a range of health practitioners and methodology expertise. Patient representatives were involved in the development of the guideline. The strengths and limitations of the body of evidence are well described and the recommendations are clearly linked to the evidence. Helpful tools for implementation are provided. There is no cost effectiveness analysis and the procedure for updating the guideline is not provided.
