Hitting the Headlines
The National electronic Library for Health (NeLH) has commissioned the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York, to assess the reliability of both the journalists' reporting of health stories and the research on which they are based. CRD staff provide a rapid assessment of the original research behind a news story and evaluate how accurately the journalists have reported the findings of the research. CRD produces summaries of news stories within 48 hours of their publication.
The purpose of this project is to ensure that patients and health professionals are better informed about the accuracy of reporting of research into the effectiveness of new treatments, drugs and other health care interventions in the press.

CDER - U.S. Food and Drug Administration - Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research
The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), which assures that safe and effective drugs are available to the American people, has gone through a functional and organizational metamorphosis since it began as a one-man operation to assess significant drug problems in the marketplace on the eve of the 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act. In part, this change reflects the evolution of drug law and the chemotherapeutic revolution over the 20th century--and the concomitant changes in responsibilities of the Food and Drug Administration. But the change also reflects external and internal decisions on how best to provide safe and effective drugs to patients. Every branch of government, as well as other interests affected by FDA's policies, have had a role in the way this agency regulates drugs

Ottawa Charter
The first International Conference on Health Promotion, meeting in Ottawa on 21 November 1986, presented this CHARTER for action to achieve Health for All by the year 2000 and beyond.
This conference was primarily a response to growing expectations for a new public health movement around the world. Discussions focused on the needs in industrialized countries, but took into account similar concerns in all other regions. It built on the progress made through the Declaration on Primary Health Care at Alma-Ata, the World Health Organization's Targets for Health for All document, and the recent debate at the World Health Assembly on intersectoral action for health.
