Norman Sharpe

Norman SharpProfessor Norman Sharpe was formerly the Head of the Department of Medicine and then the School of Medicine in the University of Auckland. He was inaugural Chair of NZGG.

With a background in preventive and clinical cardiovascular research, he has contributed to previous cardiovascular guideline work.

Professor Sharpe is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and was appointed an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit in the 2004 Queen's Birthday Honours.

He is currently Medical Director of the Heart Foundation.

Mark Jeffery

Mark JefferyMBChB, FRACP, DM(Soton)

Mark Jeffery is a Medical Oncologist at Christchurch Hospital. He was part of the first intake of fellows who received training in guideline development and implementation with the NZGG in 1996. He is actively involved in cancer clinical trials and has a particular interest in the utility of follow-up strategies in patients treated for malignancy, patient communication and methods of continuing education. He is a co-director of the NZ Branch of the Australasian Cochrane Centrere and a Cochrane reviewer and editor.

Peter Didsbury

Peter Didsbury For The WebPeter is in general practice in Clendon , South Auckland. He is chairman of the board of ProCare Health Limited. He is a board member of BPAC (NZ) inc and GPNZ.

An original fellow and advisory member of the NZGG he visited Group Health with NZGG in 1996. He was co-chair of the guideline team that contributed to the National Heart Foundation's guideline on congestive heart failure. Other guideline work has included the ProCare / Starship "Asthma Pathway for Children and Young People", dyspepsia and developing implementation strategies for mental health guidelines. The Dyspepsia programme was the winner of the Health Innovation Award in 2004. Peter rretired in November 2006 after four years as Chair on the NZGG Board.

Catherine Marshall

Catherine2Between 2001-2006 Catherine Marshall was the inaugural Chief Executive of the New Zealand Guidelines Group. She was awarded Life Membership of the New Zealand Guidelines Group in 2006.

Catherine is currently an Independent Guideline Adviser and Health Sector consultant based in New Zealand. Since 2006 Catherine has provided consultancy advice on guideline implementation and general health sector in New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia. In this role she has been involved in guideline implementation projects in New Zealand, providing advice to the Australian NHMRC on standards for guidelines, conducting reviews of Australian guidelines and providing guideline implementation training.

Catherine was actively involved in the development of the Guidelines International Network and was a Trustee until 2010. She is an Honorary Patron of the Guidelines International Network.

Cindy Farquhar

CindyMB ChB MD FRCOG FRANZCOG CREI MPH MNZM

Cindy is the Postgraduate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Auckland. Cindy’s clinical interests are polycystic ovarian syndrome, pelvic pain, endometriosis, infertility and the management of abnormal uterine bleeding. Her research interests include clinical trials within subfertility and menstrual disorders, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines, quality improvement, mortality review. 

Cindy is coordinating editor of the Cochrane Menstrual Disorders and Subfertility Group which was established in 1996, and is Co-director of the New Zealand Cochrane Branch of the Australasian Cochrane Centre and has been a member of the Cochrane Oversight Committee since 2010.

Cindy is past Board Member and Chairperson of the New Zealand Guidelines Group (2001-2009).

Owen Lloyd

OwenFormally a General Manager Maori Health at Tairawhiti District Health Board Owen also managed portfolios in Maori Health, Disabilities, Aged Care, Mental Health, and Auditing and Contract Management within the Planning and Funding Group of the DHB.

Owen is presently negotiating his Tribal Treaty of Waitangi Claim as well as being involved with a number of Boards locally and nationally and community groups.

Owen joined NZGG in 1999 and held position of Cultural Advisor and also Deputy Chair prior to retiring from the Board in 2009. Owen was also a member of the Dyspepsia Guideline Development Team.
